Please see images below for more in-depth information. Here are the notes I took during the session on the paramount things!
4 PARTS OF STORYTELLING
1.Telling the story
Telling the story
Be prepared - maksure sure you have all resources (check the kit)
Know the story and tell the story ‘from the heart’ not ‘off by heart’
Make sure students are settled and ready before you begin
Consider using music or candle and inviting students to enter into the story
Encouraging older students to engage in the storytelling process.
Offer an invitation for a storytelling session
Ask to leave, you are not ready leave.
Once the stories tarts, your eyes are down and focused only on the story this speaks to the reverence we are giving the story as a piece of Scripture
Develop A strategy for managing behaviour/distractions- and establish behaviour expectations & stick to them.
Take your time - especially when the story includes a journey!
Silence is key!
When moving 3D figures:
1 . Holy by base
2. Move slowly
4. No bouncing
5. Don't move by head
Neutral responses - there is nothing right or wrong - do not nod, do not acknowledge/avoid yes or no responses!
If it's incorrect dont correct the child but if its extremely far off you can correct them but in a sense like “hmm i don't recall hearing that in the story” etc
Pick a few I wonder questions
Different questions each time
Move straight from wondering to explore
THIS IS NOT TO BE ASSESSED OR FOR DISPLAY - IT IS PERSONAL!
No affirmations or personal opinions - you can wonder with their work e.g could you explain this to me, what does this mean to you?
Do not force students to share, it is personal
Provide multiple options to explore, different options
25 Minutes of exploring (the more the better)
Ideas (Ways to explore) :
Retell the story
Scripture grafiti - visual image and caption of the story
Prayer,poem or letter
Dramatise the story
Handprints - facts, opinions the feeling swhat it reminds you off and what iff on each finger
Write a song
Create a symbol
Create a game
Way of offering work to God
Each time they hear the story it is essential they go through all four processes
Example : While you were working god was talking to you… now is time to talk to God (Then begin prayer)
2D - Parables - Stories of the bible - Has to be flat! E.g good samaritan
3D - Old testament stories or stories about Jesus can be real life figures
