This R.I.S.E session was very effective as I was able to finally implement the writing goals proforma and the feedback session which I was hesitant on implementing. I was initially hesitant as I worried about how I would be able to manage the whole class and manage to see each student within an effective and manageable time frame. This was due to the extended text pieces that students construct in year 6. All my fear stemmed straight from scepticism and I realised this once I actually put into place the process. Having the camera there for my first attempt was a great tool to be able to reflect on the process which went great! I picked a handful of students (4) who each had distinctly different goals, and introduced the process to them which took about 2 minutes then off they went. The students were able to locate examples within a range of texts across a breadth of KLAs. I found this extremely as prior to implementing the process I subconsciously was bringing the students to focus back to their goals across all KLAs “Just a reminder this is a great opportunity for you to showcase how you are working towards your goal!” Also, by having it on the corner of the slides made this process a breeze. Brooke and I discussed how effective the session was and addressed my R.I.S.E questions
- How to see all students within an effective time frame?
- How to introduce BUMP IT up?
During our R.I.S.E session, Brooke and I addressed in detail both my questions. Due to the success of my first experience, I want to embed it more frequently. We decided to have a goals segment each day during my writing block in the initial warm-up (15 minutes max). I will pick four students and complete the process each day, ensuring all students are seen within the week at that time. The second goal stems from the staff meeting experiences this week regarding BUMP IT UP! Brooke shared me into and explained how year 3 are embedding the process which has motivated me to do the same. I am very excited to begin my BIU and writing goal journey.
Goal: Ensuring the goal process is actioned on a weekly basis - Each writing session during our writing warm-up four students will be chosen to bring forth their goal and find an example.
