On Tuesday, our staff was fortunate enough to attend a staff meeting run by our Religious Education PLT. I attended two workshops - one focusing on typology, and the other focusing on the Year 6 Religious Education test.
I was intrigued about my first workshop on typology - I vaguely remembered hearing this term at university, however I had no idea what it was! Carly and Victoria did an excellent job of explaining that typology is where a person or event in the Old Testament foreshadows a greater person or event in the New Testament. The girls gave us examples of typology with regard to Moses and Jesus, and Baptism. We were then given the opportunity to identify examples of typology ourselves.
I was very interested to attend my second workshop regarding the Year 6 Religious Education test, as I have recently begun a full-time position on Year 6, just before they received their test results (which were outstanding!). Ash and Tess tested our knowledge first by instructing us to answer five questions taken from past tests. I was quite shocked to learn that the questions in the test are based on content learned from Kindergarten to Year 6 - not to mention that in 2017, over 75% of the test included new questions that had never been used before. I realised that this is no simple test, which made our Year 6 results this year seem even more impressive!
Thank you RE PLT for an insightful staff meeting!
