I feel like I won the lottery when Tiff was assigned as my partner as she has so many great insights into pedagogy and practice. At times I do feel slightly sorry for her as I tend to be on my 398th questions towards the end of the hour we spend together!

Our R.I.S.E session this afternoon was very productive and I have left feeling super confident with how I am progressing with my previous goal. Tiff noted it was clearly evident that I had taken on her feedback to implement new ideas and strategies. I decided to record a fluency rotation where I had grouped students according to what they were working towards in Mathematics. This particular group were working on understanding language within a worded problem and applying the correct operation to solve. It has been a great eye opener as I am able to observe their thought process and chosen strategy to work through my instructions. For example, I would give them a 4-digit number to begin with then ask them to halve, double, multiply, add to or find a fraction/percentage of without writing anything down- they had to listen carefully. Tiff stated that she was impressed with the activity and could see how easily it can be differentiated for different needs. She suggested that I could then use the remaining time to discuss with students their reasoning and methods which is something I believe I need to spend more time on. A perfect example of hard on content, soft on people.

I have chosen to continue my current goal for Mathematics and I look forward to now shifting my focus on writing for my next R.I.S.E cycle with the BUMP IT UP strategy.
