    Pre Assessment

Whilst engaging in GEO2 this term, I have been guided to think deeply about pre assessment, particularly with gifted and talented students in mind.

    How do you pre assess?

How do you ensure that there is an entry point for every child?

How do you ensure that gifted students are able to demonstrate the extent of their understanding?

By completing this rubric from the GEO2 program - I was able to be critically reflective of the way that I pre assess, and in turn post assessments, particularly with reference to those who are gifted. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UoL_3mVE_nnchsr0WSEa9CVvXjkSTznk1dAEqE6v0qw/edit See this link for a copy of the rubric and feel free to use.

I have included an example that was given in the module:

Core task - Using addition, create as many equations as you can that result in a sum of ‘7’

Differentiated task - Using any mathematical operations and using numbers less than 20, create as many equations as you can with the answer ‘7’.

This task provides open-endedness, complexity and variety in demonstrating their understanding of mathematical concepts.

It is imperative that, across all KLAs, we provide opportunities for students to show their depth of understanding so that we can meet them where they are in their understanding and move their learning forward.

Would love to know your thoughts on this and would be more than happy to help you plan a pre test that allows for students to demonstrate the extent of their understanding.
