Reflecting on my Term 1 RISE goal ‘By the next R.I.S.E. cycle I will ensure that I have explored the purpose of each writing goal. This will be evidenced through teacher to student feedback’, I have made clear advancements and growth in this area. This was highlighted through; good clarification with students and developing their understanding of their chosen writing goal, the teacher feedback and questioning which was appropriate to what the students required (level of independence) and there were clear connections made to text purpose and audience.
While immersing and self-evaluating it was affirming to see that my students vocabulary and language has deepend and the way in which they edit, conference and connect to their work has developed in confidence and quality. This was evident with words such as, editing, writing goal, achieved, audience and purpose all being continually used in the dialogue between myself and the students.
To conclude my RISE cycle my partner and I noticed that the majority of the goal writing conference was teacher talk, and we know that this, although essential to developing student understanding of the process, is now needing to be limited. It is time to develop my students independence and build their capacity in directing the conferencing session. Therefore my RISE goal for Term 2 is ‘ By the next RISE cycle my students will have a deeper understanding of the writing conferencing process and this will be evident through less teacher guidance and questioning.’
