The Term 3 Rise Cycle saw a change in the teacher partnerships and saw me buddied with Lauren.S. After a brief chat about the change of focus for our goals in Semester 2, we realised that we had similar areas of development for our term 3 reflection - whole class writing lessons.
Our discussion was in depth and purposeful - our dialogue centred around the restructuring of Lauren’s writing program and how the lesson focus is not so much on the structure of text types, but more so on the student’s composing creative writing pieces and taking more risks in their writing. Whilst engaged in the discussion, I was inspired by the process and felt motivated and eager to implement some of these ideas into my own writing lessons.
It was interesting that both Lauren and myself wanted feedback not so much on the delivery of our explicit lessons, but more so on the content and how best to present explicit writing lessons that are engaging, rigorous and challenging for all students and how to best differentiate the content so it caters for the individual learning needs of all students.
After discussing the feedback, it became apparent that a new goal for the following semester will be to:
*To engage students in more authentic writing experiences and allowing them to have ownership on the creative writing process.
I am looking forward to the challenge of constructing lessons and implementing experiences that will allow me to find success in my new RISE goal.
