As a part of my goal this term, I began to work on developing students ability to self evaluate their writing.
To assist with this, I introduced coloured editing:
Circle capital letters in blue
Write full stops in red
Put a purple line underneath words missing a finger space (yet to be introduced).
I started this at the beginning of this term, however, it was slower than expected with the introduction of dotted third lines. As a result, I have only introduced capital letters and full stops.
Students have loved using these colours and being accountable for editing their work.
As discussed with Mimi, reviewing this process through conferencing with students has helped them be accountable for their work. receieve timely feedback, giving them time to independently reflect and having timely feedback. An area of development would be encourage and develop more student led questioning.
My goal for Term 4 will be:
To introduce 'Bump It Up' to help students evaluate their work.
I am looking forward to using this model to help students be reflective learners and learn ways that they can work towards improving their work.
