My term one goal was a challenging one to fulfil as I only have Year 5 every second week and we did not engage in Guided Reading every fortnight. However, the reflection on what I need to do to help the group with whom I work was very valuable and I am glad that I have begun to implement some of the strategies that Shivonne and I thought would be beneficial to these learners.
Louise and I looked at the video and both felt that the students certainly moved away from teacher directed to taking on the roles to enhance their own, as well as the group’s reading. The students were keen to participate and were very engaged in their reading. I think my explicit teaching of these roles was rushed and I know I would need to slow this down for other students in the class.
Getting affirmation from Louise was terrific and it was wonderful to share ideas and engage in effective teacher discussion.
My future directions will focus on feedback. I would like to provide the students with the opportunity to articulate effective feedback to each other and to me. As I am in Year 6 three days I would like to utilise this aim in the History unit that I am programming for Term 3.
