    A Year a R.I.S.E

    For my R.I.S.E this term, I continued with my yearly R.I.S.E goal of building upon my confidence and improving my guided reading sessions. My video this term was focused upon identifying perspectives within Historical texts. The session I filmed was my support group, reading the text; My Two Blankets by Freya Blackwood. The students within this group come a variety of cultural backgrounds, two being from EALD and one only being within Australia for 3 years.


    My goal for this session was to ensure that I utilise all the professional dialogue and learning from my combined R.I.S.E experiences. Tayla and I discussed my strengths within the video, we agreed that I outlined the learning intention and success criteria for the students to achieve. I also allow time for all students to make connections and draw upon their prior knowledge when discussing the rich vocabulary within the text. Within the session, I used a range of open ended questions that allowed all students to develop their ideas on the range of perspectives identified within the text.


    Tayla and I identified areas of improvement were within the gradual release of responsibility, most of my guided reading session with this particular group is heavily teacher led. In gradually releasing the responsibility to the students, this will allow me to identify what students need additional assistance and build upon the feeling of success within the individual.


    I have thoroughly enjoyed the R.I.S.E experience, this process has taught me that by collaborating with one another we can draw on each others strengths and work towards minimising our unified weaknesses. I have been fortunate enough to work with two teachers that are passionate about supporting one another and growing together within the R.I.S.E process. I look forward to continuing this process in 2019, and I look forward continuing my goal guided reading, however begin focusing on additionally areas to critique within the R.I.S.E process.
