SOLO Taxonomy is something that I had never heard of before today. We were given a 2 page explanation about what SOLO taxonomy is and its benefits to the classroom. At first I wasn’t really sure what to think, but once I was given a real life experience in the classroom I understood and could see it’s tremendous potential.
During this session with Tom, we went through how SOLO taxonomy can help enhance students metacognition. We focused on how we as teachers can gauge a students understanding through Solo Taxonomy. Solo taxonomy allows the teacher to gauge a students understanding on three levels - surface, deep and conceptual. This allows students to monitor their own learning and understand where they need to go from where they are at. The visuals allow students to understand this process.
When Tom gave me a real life example of how this works in the classroom I was immediately keen to try it myself. At the end of the session we decided that we will observe the classroom and see where this can be used and implemented.
I am intrigued as to what the new session will bring us!!
