    R.I.S.E Week feedback - Part 2

R.I.S.E Week Journal Reflection - Goal evaluation

My goal for R.I.S.E week was increasing students engagement during the explicit teaching of writing skills.

    Affirmations of my lesson

    • Students were really engaged in the lesson, I didn’t have to stop to address behaviour.

    • I focused on one area of writing, this enable students to understand the content area better.

    • Good amount of questions for students

    • There was an equal amount of talking from students and myself.

    • Students were given ample opportunities to answer and discuss the lessons.

    • Students were also given time to think pair share with each other, this enabled my struggling students to have an opportunity to respond to my questions.

    Evaluation of my Goal

Goal - To increase student engagement during the explicit teaching of writing skills.

I believe I achieved my goal. Every lesson can always be improved, but from the students feedback at the end, I believe my goal has been achieved.

The students said at the end of my lesson, that they wanted to continue! This shows me that my lesson was excellent and the activities used worked well for them!

Carly was also impressed by the amount of engagement from my students. The activities Carly gave me worked really effectively in the classroom. I hope that when we do R.I.S.E next term I am paired with Carly as she has plenty of brilliant ideas!!

    Future planning and practice

In the future I plan to continue to implement these partner discussion activities into my whole class instruction to engage students in what we are learning.

I will also continue to print out a paper copy of the text excerpt we are focusing, where possible.

I will also make sure not to cram too much content into my lessons and have a clear focus for what I want the students to achieve at the end!

Comment on the R.I.S.E process itself

The R.I.S.E process was amazing!!! I love getting ideas from my colleagues. When I implemented these ideas and activities into my lesson, the students didn’t want to stop.
