This R.I.S.E cycle was slightly different for me as I was able to discuss my lesson with an EALD expert and get some feedback in regards to language, discussion and feedback within my Mathematics lesson. This is imperative for me as the majority of my students aren’t EALD but I do have a few and sometimes I believe they are not fully catered for.
Mandy gave me some great feedback on my lessons and said it was extremely engaging and catered for all levels of students. She said that it would be a good idea to place some of the language and essential concepts on the board for students to visually see. My goal developed from this was to incorporate individual student’s feedback into the end of a lesson to gauge students understanding of what’s been taught and where to go from there in terms of planning and programming for the next lessons.
We also looked at Mandy’s lesson which was extremely engaging and great to see how she slows down lesson and concepts to help those EALD students understand the information taught. I suggested that when Mandy was discussing the language with students to also have a visual representation of this for students to link their understanding of the language with what that language means/represents.
Overall it was a great discussion with Mandy and I look forward to my follow up session next term.
