Today we completed a staff development day on Assessment. We learnt the importance of assessment and the place it holds in our classrooms.
There were many different workshops today about the importance of assessment.
We looked at differentiated assessment and how important this is to integrate this into all assessment. We also learnt that there needs to be a variety of ways that students can respond in assessments.
Jamie gave us a booklet that contained lots of different examples of how to assess students!! this is a great resource!! So thank you Jamie!!
Jessie and Carly went through using the assessment criteria to mark students work. This was particularly helpful for me as students are coming up to NAPLAN.
We also looked at the importance of guided reading and the guided reading sessions is also very much an assessment. This was my favourite part of the day where we were able to look at the guided reading proforma and create questions that would guide and direct our teaching, which also allows for proper assessment of students.
The important thing to remember is that all students need to feel successful and challenged at their level!
We also need to remember that assessment is happening all the time and every learning opportunity is an opportunity to gain an understanding of what students can do, what they know and whether our teaching has been effective.
I loved the way the information was presented to us today, in the different workshops.
